In 2019, the Malaysian government launched a nationwide smoking ban in all eateries, including both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned restaurants, coffee shops, and street stalls. In support of this initiative, Maxim E-hailing started a large anti-smoking campaign in May 2019, which continues today. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of health and a smoke-free environment. So far, about 45,000 no-smoking posters have been placed across the country, and over 2,000 restaurants have participated.
Maxim’s campaign involves distributing impactful posters and targeted advertisements that highlight the dangers of smoking, especially in enclosed spaces. Their goal is to reduce smoking rates, particularly protecting vulnerable groups like children and people with respiratory issues. The campaign has led to a noticeable reduction in the number of people affected by secondhand smoke. Maxim’s director, Mohd Hazwan Musley, emphasized the company’s commitment to promoting health and working with restaurants to create smoke-free zones.
Restaurant owners, like the one from Santai Cafe in Melaka, expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting how it has helped protect customers and reduce costs for businesses. Maxim says it is dedicated to continuing its efforts to foster a healthier, smoke-free environment.
