MMEA Receives Decommissioned US Cutter Steadfast to Boost Maritime Security

PETALING JAYA, Sept 7 — The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has officially taken delivery of the decommissioned US cutter Steadfast in Baltimore, marking a major boost to its fleet. An MMEA crew of 50, including nine officers, will sail the vessel across the Atlantic, Mediterranean, Suez Canal, and Indian Ocean — the agency’s longest voyage yet. Commissioned in 1968, the 65m vessel underwent a major overhaul in 1992 and was decommissioned last year. Equipped with a 25mm chain gun, machine guns, and a helicopter, Steadfast will strengthen Malaysia’s maritime security and cooperation with the US.
