The Perak government will present a Cabinet paper this week on the RM6.2 billion water transfer project from Sungai Perak to Bukit Merah to address critical shortages in northern Perak. Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad said the project, a joint venture between Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) and Gamuda Bhd, will prioritise local contractor involvement and benefit agricultural irrigation and the Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park (KIGIP). Surplus water may be sold to Penang. The 40-year concession, set to start by 2030, will be implemented via privatization, with the agreement expected to be finalised within 90 days.
