Petronas to Deliver First LNG Canada Cargo to Japan’s Toho Gas in July
Malaysian state energy giant Petroliam Nasional (Petronas) will deliver its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from the LNG Canada project to Japanese city gas provider Toho Gas in July, a senior executive announced. Shamsairi Ibrahim, Petronas’ vice president of LNG marketing and trading, shared the milestone at an energy conference in Tokyo on June 20, as reported by Reuters. The LNG Canada project, a $40-billion joint venture in Kitimat, British Columbia, involving Petronas, Shell, PetroChina, Mitsubishi, and Kogas, is set to mark Canada’s first major LNG exports. Ibrahim also revealed that Petronas’ third floating LNG project is slated to begin production in 2027. This delivery underscores Petronas’ commitment to meeting Asia’s growing energy demand while reinforcing Canada’s emerging role in the global LNG market.
