KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26, 2026 — Proton Holdings Bhd expects to achieve total vehicle sales of 200,000 units in 2026, its highest annual performance in 15 years, following a strong first-half showing. Deputy CEO Datuk Abdul Rashid Musa said Proton sold about 100,000 vehicles in the first six months and is confident of maintaining momentum for the rest of the year.
He noted that the xEV segment — covering hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric vehicles — already accounts for 17 per cent of Proton’s sales, positioning the company ahead of the government’s 20 per cent electrified vehicle target by 2030. “We will be able to support the government to achieve that target,” he said at the Global Automotive and Technology Expo 2026 (GATE Expo).
Proton’s Return
Proton showcased four key technologies at the expo: hybrid electric powertrain, electrical and electronic architecture, integrated head unit, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Abdul Rashid emphasized Proton’s role in making advanced automotive technologies accessible to the masses, aligning with national goals to reduce emissions and improve safety.
He added that Proton is committed to strengthening Malaysia’s automotive ecosystem through localisation and industry collaboration, aiming to make the country a hub for cutting-edge automotive technology.
