Raub Durian Farmers Clash with Pahang Authorities Over Musang King Tree Felling
RAUB, April 11, 2025 — Tensions flared in Sungai Klau as durian farmers, led by Save Musang King Alliance (Samka) and Raub MP Chow Yu Hui, confronted Pahang State Enforcement Unit (UPNP) personnel felling Musang King trees on disputed land.
Farmers pleaded to spare the trees, with one lamenting, “It’s okay if we die, but don’t cut them down.” Samka claims the state violated a court order, but Pahang’s legal adviser Saiful Edris Zainuddin denied this, stating the land is state-owned and the farmers’ 2024 judicial review was dismissed.
“The allegation that the state government acted against a court ruling is false.
“The Kuantan High Court had already dismissed the farmers’ judicial review application regarding the eviction order on April 24, 2024,” he told Bernama. The Court of Appeal had also rejected the farmers’ application for a stay of the eviction order, he added.
In Sungai Klau, Raub, durian farmers led by Save Musang King Alliance (Samka) and Raub MP Chow Yu Hui clashed with Pahang State Enforcement Unit (UPNP) personnel to stop the felling of Musang King trees on disputed land. Chow reported that UPNP, alongside Forestry Department, Land Office staff, and police, entered the plantation at 11 am to clear the trees, escalating tensions as farmers protested the operation.
