MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that at least two individuals will soon be charged in connection with a video clip allegedly showing a corruption scandal involving a Sabah state assemblyman. The investigation paper has been completed and sent to the prosecution for review. Azam indicated that additional prosecutions may follow, as more individuals could be implicated in the case.
Last year, in a major twist to the Sabah corruption scandal, a whistleblower has released full video recordings allegedly showing several state assemblypersons discussing the return of bribes linked to a revoked mining exploration licence. The videos, recorded in January, suggest attempts to regain political support after the licence was cancelled. Prominent lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah is now representing the whistleblower pro bono, aiming to set a legal precedent for whistleblower protection in high-profile corruption cases.
