Sepang Gears Up as Formula 1 Returns With Economic Boost

SEPANG, Sept 28, 2026, The roar of Formula 1 engines will return to Sepang International Circuit (SIC) from Oct. 2–4, with the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix expected to draw more than 110,000 spectators and up to 300,000 foreign visitors. Authorities and businesses are preparing to leverage the event as a major economic windfall for Selangor and the wider Klang Valley.

Sepang MP Aiman Athirah Sabu said infrastructure upgrades worth RM16 million by the Federal Government and RM1.5 million by the state were completed to handle increased traffic. Works included resurfacing, safety improvements, lighting, and facility enhancements across key roads.

Formula 1 Returns

She noted that the return of F1 would spur demand across tourism, hospitality, transport, food and beverage, and local businesses in Sepang, Cyberjaya, Putrajaya, and the Klang Valley. Beyond the circuit, destinations such as Pantai Bagan Lalang, Sungai Pelek, Dengkil, eco-tourism sites, and community-based attractions are being promoted.

Athirah highlighted Sungai Pelek’s dragon fruit industry and the Mah Meri Orang Asli cultural heritage as unique draws. “F1 is not just about racing but a platform to strengthen Malaysia’s international image, attract high-value tourism, and inspire the younger generation,” she said.
