PETALING JAYA/SEPANG, July 28 – The roar of Formula One engines will once again echo through Sepang International Circuit (SIC) as Malaysia prepares to host the rescheduled 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix from October 2 to 4. The event is expected to deliver a significant tourism boost across the Klang Valley, with hotels, restaurants, and businesses anticipating stronger demand.
SME Association of Malaysia president Chin Chee Seong said hotels in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and areas with good connectivity to Sepang are already expecting higher bookings. “F1 is a globally recognised sporting event that attracts international visitors, business travellers and motorsport enthusiasts,” he noted, adding that spending will extend beyond hotels to transport, retail, and local attractions.

SIC CEO Azhan Shafriman Hanif confirmed Bahrain will cover the bulk of hosting rights fees, estimated at US$70–80 million (RM280–327 million). Malaysia and Bahrain will share additional costs of around RM40 million for track preparations and local organising expenses. Shafriman said the circuit remains at FIA Grade 1 standards, requiring only minor improvements such as run-off area upgrades.
With F1 unable to take place in Bahrain due to Middle East conflict, Malaysia’s return to the calendar is seen as a major win for tourism and motorsport.
