Singapore is considering tougher laws on vaping after detecting a sharp rise in e-vaporisers laced with etomidate and other controlled drugs. The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) found 28 such cases in the first half of 2025, nearly triple the 2024 total. Etomidate, an anaesthetic regulated under the Poisons Act, is prohibited for non-clinical use. Authorities are intensifying enforcement, targeting online and physical distribution networks, and collaborating with agencies like the police and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority. The Ministry of Health warned of serious side effects including seizures and psychosis. Current laws impose fines up to $2,000 for possession, and up to $10,000 or jail for distribution.
