A federal-state special committee has been formed to determine the mechanism for implementing Sabah’s 40% net revenue entitlement under MA63. Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof said the committee will be co-chaired by Sabah State Secretary Safar Untong and Treasury secretary-general Johan Mahmood Merican. The body will report to the MA63 implementation council and may also brief the Cabinet directly.
The move follows the Kota Kinabalu High Court ruling that Putrajaya acted unlawfully by withholding Sabah’s 40% revenue share for over forty years. The court ordered a review within 90 days and a mutual agreement within 180 days.
Fadillah said discussions began today and the time frame is short. Terms of reference and implementation details will be refined with the incoming Sabah government after the November 29 state election. The federal government has decided not to appeal the ruling.
