Trump Fires Pam Bondi, Names Todd Blanche Acting Chief
WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump dismissed Attorney General Pam Bondi on April 2 after months of strained relations, appointing his former personal lawyer Todd Blanche as acting head of the Justice Department. Trump praised Bondi as a “Great American Patriot” but said she would transition to a private sector role. Bondi, a longtime ally, faced criticism over her handling of the Epstein files and failure to prosecute Trump’s perceived political opponents.
Reports suggest former congressman Lee Zeldin may be considered for the permanent post. Bondi, who served as Florida’s attorney general before joining Trump’s legal team, pledged continued support for Trump in her new role. Democratic lawmakers welcomed her removal, with Senator Elizabeth Warren calling the Justice Department under Bondi “a cesspool of corruption.” Blanche, who defended Trump in multiple criminal cases, will oversee the department until a permanent replacement is named.
