Trump’s Tax and Spending Bill Passes Senate After Tie-Breaking Vote

After over 24 hours of debate, US Senate Republicans narrowly passed Donald Trump’s major tax and spending bill, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, with Vice-President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote. The bill now returns to the House, where it still faces opposition. Three Republican senators – Susan Collins, Thom Tillis, and Rand Paul – joined Democrats in voting against it, while Lisa Murkowski reluctantly supported it despite concerns over Medicaid cuts in Alaska. The bill makes Trump’s earlier tax cuts permanent and reduces spending on social programmes, sparking criticism for its rushed process and impact on vulnerable Americans.

Trump celebrated the passage of the bill. “It’s a great bill,” he said. “There is something for everyone.”
