Malaysia’s Unemployment Falls in May

Malaysia’s unemployment dropped by 0.7% in May 2025 to 522,400 people from 525,900 in April, while the unemployment rate remained at 3.0%, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). Employment rose by 0.3% to 16.86 million, driven by growth in the services sector, particularly accommodation, food and beverage, retail, and transport. Other sectors like manufacturing, construction, agriculture, and mining also saw gains. Youth unemployment (ages 15-24) decreased to 10.2%, and for those aged 15-30, it was 6.2%. Chief Statistician Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the figures reflect Malaysia’s strong economy and labour market resilience despite global challenges.
