Malaysian Universities Dominate Huawei ICT Contest, Set for Global Recognition
The Malaysian edition of the Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 concluded with Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) securing top honors.
UM won the Grand Prize in the Network Track, UTAR excelled in the Cloud Track, and UMS triumphed in the Computing Track. This edition attracted 620 undergraduates from 11 local universities, marking a significant increase in participation since its inception in 2018.

The winning students received Huawei laptops, mobile phones, and MatePads and will represent Malaysia at the regional competition in Shenzhen, China. Dr. Muhamad Shakirin Mispan highlighted the lucrative prospects in the digital economy for talented individuals.
Huawei’s Vice President for Asia Pacific, Mr. Zhang Fupeng, commended the growth and potential exhibited by Malaysian talents through this competition, emphasizing Huawei’s commitment to nurturing global ICT talent, with 44,000 talents trained in Malaysia to date.
The theme for this year’s competition was “Connection, Glory, Future,” and it served as a platform for over 749,000 students worldwide. The 11 universities that qualified for the national round included:
The Huawei ICT Competition aligns with the Seeds for the Future initiative, Huawei’s flagship CSR program, emphasizing the bridging of theoretical knowledge with practical skills, fostering innovation, and facilitating collaboration between academia and industry professionals.
