RM250M Water Treatment Plant at Mengkuang Dam Will Boost Penang’s Water Supply by 2026

Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) is constructing a RM250 million Water Treatment Plant (WTP) near the Expanded Mengkuang Dam (EMD) in Bukit Mertajam, set to be completed by November 2026. The Taman Mengkuang WTP, located 550 meters from the EMD, will supply up to 114 million litres per day of treated water, primarily for the Seberang Perai Tengah district. The 18-month project will utilize the EMD, Penang’s largest dam, which will transition from an emergency water storage facility to a dual-purpose dam, supplying raw water daily to the new WTP while remaining a backup for the Sungai Dua WTP during emergencies.
