Yves Saint Laurent Caught Lowering Prices on Classic Bags, Luxury Market Down?

The prices of luxury goods have increased immensely since the pandemic. However, it appears that the target audience of these brands are no longer purchasing their items as much as they did years ago. Brands like Gucci have been in decline since 2023. Furthermore, it is odd to see a luxury brand reducing their prices.

A redditor noticed a wallet on chain from Yves Saint Laurent that they fancied has reduced in price. But, the drop in price is not as significant as one may think. There was about a £50 difference from the before and after prices. Others were annoyed as they paid the previous higher price last year for this item.

Additionally, SuperDacob, a luxury YouTube enthusiast, states that a TikToker observed a price decrease on YSL bags. This time, the decrease is rather significant as the prices dropped by $200-$300. Speculations are that consumers are no longer entering these stores and are spending their money elsewhere.

A commenter states, “The people have spoken. People have decreased their spending at brands like YSL and Prada and now they are finally decreasing the prices.” Consumers are tired of having to fork up extra for an item that is allegedly made of lower quality materials.

According to Fashion United, Kering Group, (the owner of Gucci and YSL) reported a Q1 revenue of 4.5 billion euros, down 11% as reported and 10% on a comparable basis. Revenue from the directly operated retail network fell 11% due to lower store traffic, while wholesale and other segments were down 7%.

Gucci’s revenue dropped 21%, Yves Saint Laurent’s by 8%, and Bottega Veneta’s by 2%. Other houses saw a 7% decline, while Kering Eyewear revenue increased by 8%.
