KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 — Former Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz described Budget 2027 as striking “a steadier balance between fiscal discipline and economic relief,” highlighting its RM510 billion allocation and targeted measures to ease household pressures.
In a commentary published by Malay Mail, Zafrul noted the fiscal deficit target of 3.3% for 2027, down from 5.5% in 2022, as proof of “courage, of hard choices made when it would have been far easier to spend now and let future generations pay.”

He welcomed the minimum wage hike to RM2,000 in June 2027, alongside a new RM2,500 wage floor for graduates and semi‑skilled workers, saying: “More than four million workers will feel the difference, while smaller firms are given room to adjust.”
Expanded tax reliefs to RM12,000 and rate cuts are expected to provide up to RM1,600 in disposable income for five million taxpayers.
