ACTIF Promotes Evidence-Based Nutrition and Sustainable Palm Oil Awareness in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, 24 November 2025 — The Association of Certified Fitness Trainers (ACTIF) is urging Malaysians to make informed, science-based nutrition choices by recognising the role of locally produced, sustainable palm oil in supporting a healthy lifestyle.

As Malaysia continues to battle rising rates of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol, ACTIF emphasises that prevention begins with balanced eating, smarter cooking methods, and greater awareness of the nutritional value of local food sources.

ACTIF President Mohd Husaini bin Mohd Yusoff said it is time to move away from outdated misconceptions surrounding palm oil and to acknowledge it as a nutritious, stable, and affordable option that supports both health and sustainability.

“Palm oil has long been misunderstood despite its proven nutritional benefits. It is naturally free from trans fats, rich in vitamin E tocotrienols, and high in antioxidants, all of which contribute to heart and immune health. When used correctly and as part of a balanced diet, it provides excellent heat stability for frying and helps retain nutrients in food,” said Husaini.

He added that the palm oil produced under the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certification scheme meets stringent standards for food safety and sustainability, ensuring that Malaysians can enjoy a healthy diet while supporting responsible local production.

“Choosing MSPO-certified palm oil means choosing a healthier lifestyle that also supports the environment and the local farming community. Look for the MSPO logo on cooking oil bottles and food products to ensure they meet Malaysia’s sustainability standards. It is a simple way for Malaysians to take pride in using a homegrown product that aligns with our national sustainability goals,” he said.

Husaini noted that promoting balanced nutrition goes hand in hand with ACTIF’s mission to build a healthier, more active nation. He said Malaysians need practical, science-based guidance rather than restrictive diets or imported health trends that may not fit local needs.

“Healthy living is not about eliminating our traditional food culture. It is about learning how to prepare and enjoy our favourite dishes the right way using good oils, proper cooking temperatures, and portion control. Prevention starts at home, in our kitchens,” he added.

He also highlighted that fitness trainers, health educators, and wellness professionals play an important role in empowering Malaysians to make these daily choices.

“ACTIF members are committed to bridging the gap between fitness and nutrition education. We want Malaysians to understand that local, sustainable options like MSPO-certified palm oil are not only good for their health but also for the country’s long-term well-being,” said Husaini.

ACTIF reaffirmed its commitment to working with stakeholders across the health, nutrition, and sustainability sectors to strengthen public awareness of healthy lifestyles and responsible food choices.

“By investing in prevention, nutrition literacy, and sustainable local products today, we can build a stronger, healthier Malaysia that values science, sustainability, and self-care in equal measure,” Husaini concluded.
