AI Jitters and Oil Surge Hit Global Stocks

Global stocks fell as AI trade weakened and oil prices surged, with US tech shares and Asian markets leading declines.

NEW YORK, Oct 9 — Global equities retreated on Thursday as renewed oil price spikes and mounting concerns over artificial intelligence earnings rattled sentiment. The Nasdaq slid 1.25% to 27,193.34 after reports on OpenAI’s revenue outlook pressured the AI trade, while the S&P 500 fell 0.47% to 7,765.36. The Dow managed a modest gain of 51.77 points, or 0.1%, to 51,231.64.

Oracle dropped more than 5%, with Nvidia and AMD losing nearly 3% and 4% respectively, highlighting investor unease over tech valuations. Brent crude surged 3.9% to $104.13 on US‑Iran headlines before easing, while Treasury yields retreated from fresh 24‑year highs after a solid 30‑year auction.

Europe’s STOXX 600 fell 0.75% to 625.51, weighed by elevated yields and oil prices, while Asian markets closed broadly lower, with South Korea’s KOSPI down 2.62%, Japan’s Nikkei 225 off 1.42% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng slipping 1.43%.
