Tony Fernandes
KUALA LUMPUR – Capital A CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes has expressed concern over the “powerless” state of the aviation industry as geopolitical tensions and volatile oil prices disrupt global operations.
Following recent strikes in West Asia, jet fuel prices have surged past US$100 per barrel, forcing many Asian carriers to review fares and introduce fuel surcharges. Over 27,000 flights have been cancelled in the region since late February, highlighting the severe operational impact on the sector.
Despite the “temporary storm,” Fernandes remains confident in AirAsia’s resilience, citing the airline’s fundamental strength developed through past crises like COVID-19 and SARS. He emphasized that AirAsia’s core mission—democratizing the skies—remains a vital bridge for cultural understanding during times of global division. – Source: Bernama
