Anti-Dumping Duties
The Malaysian government has imposed anti-dumping duties on imports of non-alloy flat-rolled steel products from China, India, Japan, and South Korea to counter unfair trade practices that harm the local industry. The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) stated that investigations showed these products—tin-plated or electroplated steel sheets over 600mm wide—were imported at prices lower than their home market rates, causing material injury to domestic producer Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia Bhd (Perstima).
• China: 4.48% to 20.42%
• India: 27.88%
• Japan: 15.74% to 36.80%
• South Korea: 21.60% to 35.43%
These duties will be enforced for five years, from 11 May 2025 to 10 May 2030, by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department. MITI emphasized that this measure aims to protect the local industry and ensure fair market competition, while still supporting transparent and legal trade flows.
