Malaysia has imposed preliminary anti-dumping duties, ranging from 2.52% to 36.8%, on tinplate imports from China, India, Japan, and South Korea starting January 11. This move follows a government investigation that found evidence of dumping, where imported tinplate was sold below its normal value, causing harm to Malaysia’s domestic industry.
The investigation was initiated in August 2024 after a petition by Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia Bhd (Perstima), which claimed imports were underpriced and harming local manufacturers. The provisional duties will remain in effect during the investigation, with a final determination expected within 120 days.
