Anwar Ibrahim is under pressure to deliver concrete reforms after two years in power
TAMPIN, July 27, 2026 – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim revealed that the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), once the world’s largest and most successful plantation company, is now burdened with nearly RM10 billion in losses caused by mismanagement and excessive political interference.
Anwar said reports he reviewed upon assuming office showed Felda heavily indebted, forcing the government to bear significant financial strain each year. “Eight years ago, decisions changed. There was excessive political interference. In the end, what once earned RM10 billion is now in deficit,” he stated.
He stressed that settlers were not to blame, emphasizing their hard work and loyalty. Instead, he accused those entrusted with managing Felda of betraying public trust.
Citing past leaders such as Raja Alias Raja Muhammad Ali and the late Tan Sri Taib Andak, Anwar noted Felda was once efficiently managed, delivering strong returns. He pledged to restore Felda’s integrity, insisting his focus is based on facts, not politics.
