Biocon and Duopharma Biotech secured over MYR225 million in Malaysian insulin contracts, reinforcing affordable diabetes treatment, strengthening local manufacturing, and expanding patient access through long-term collaboration.
standing partner, Duopharma Biotech Berhad, secured multiple insulin supply contracts from the Ministry of Health (MoH) worth more than MYR225 million this year.
Under the agreements, Biocon’s Malaysian subsidiary, Biocon Sdn. Bhd., will supply short-acting recombinant human insulin, insulin glargine, and insulin aspart to Duopharma (M) Sendirian Berhad for nationwide distribution.
The contracts include a three-year agreement valued at approximately MYR155.27 million for human insulin, alongside two separate two-year agreements worth around MYR18 million for insulin glargine and MYR52.5 million for insulin aspart.
Biocon said the partnership aligns with the goals outlined in Malaysia’s 13th Malaysia Plan and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 by supporting a reliable and accessible supply of essential medicines.
Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Shreehas Tambe said Malaysia has played a central role in Biocon’s insulin operations for more than a decade, supported by its integrated insulin manufacturing facility in Johor, the largest in Asia. He added that the facility enables the company to expand access to affordable insulin both domestically and internationally.
According to Biocon, an estimated 4.75 million people in Malaysia are living with diabetes, highlighting the importance of ensuring continued access to affordable insulin therapies.
Biocon and Duopharma Biotech have collaborated since 2016, supplying more than 120 million insulin cartridges to MoH facilities over the past decade and supporting over 450,000 patients. Their partnership has also expanded into oncology and ophthalmology biologics, broadening access to advanced treatments across Malaysia.
