China imposed anti-dumping duties of up to 74.9% on POM copolymer imports from USA

On May 18, 2025, China imposed anti-dumping duties of up to 74.9% on POM copolymer imports, an engineering plastic used in auto parts, electronics, and medical equipment, from the US, EU, Japan, and Taiwan. The decision follows a probe started in May 2024, triggered by US tariff hikes on Chinese electric vehicles and other goods. The highest duties (74.9%) apply to US imports, while EU imports face 34.5%, Japanese imports 35.5% (except Asahi Kasei at 24.5%), and Taiwanese imports 32.6% (except Formosa Plastics at 4% and Polyplastics Taiwan at 3.8%). This comes amid hopes of easing US-China trade tensions after a 90-day tariff reduction truce was agreed upon, with calls for its extension, while the APEC highlighted ongoing global trade challenges.
