Will China turn BRICS into a tool of trade war against the US?

With Donald Trump’s trade war, everything is now possible. The big question we have is whether China will try to reshape BRICS into a more hardline anti-Western bloc, or will it keep things flexible to keep India and others on board?

China has historically avoided direct confrontation, preferring to expand its influence through economic and diplomatic means rather than outright conflict. But with Trump potentially undermining the WTO and the UN, China may see BRICS as a tool to reshape global governance in its favor.

China’s Possible Strategy for BRICS

  1. Expand BRICS to Weaken Western Institutions – With the WTO and UN losing credibility, China could push BRICS as an alternative global framework, bringing in more Global South nations to challenge U.S.-led institutions.
  2. Deepen Economic Ties to Make BRICS Essential – China might push for stronger trade agreements within BRICS, making it harder for countries like India to leave without losing economic benefits.
  3. Push De-Dollarization to Undermine U.S. Influence – If China can get BRICS members to rely less on the dollar,

With this we end our series on BRICS in relation to the trade wars we are currently seeing.
