Chinese Tourists Flock to Europe During Golden Week, Boosting Cultural and Economic Exchange
BRUSSELS, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) — Europe’s top destinations witnessed a wave of Chinese tourists during this year’s “Golden Week,” injecting new energy into the continent’s tourism and cultural sectors.
According to Guo Dongjie, vice president of leading travel platform Ctrip.com, more than 30 percent of China’s outbound bookings during the holiday were for Europe, making it the most popular overseas destination. Iconic cities such as Paris, Rome, Madrid, and London reported strong arrivals, while emerging destinations in Eastern Europe, including Serbia and Croatia, also saw increased interest.
In Switzerland, Chinese travelers thronged Jungfraujoch’s snow-covered peaks, while in Rome, newlyweds posed with traditional “Double Happiness” symbols. Local guides across Europe noted growing demand from young, independent Chinese travelers seeking authentic and cultural experiences rather than conventional sightseeing.
Italian tour guide Marina Daga said Chinese tourists have become her main clientele since late September, with family and youth groups showing particular enthusiasm.
Tourism experts view the trend as a two-way exchange that not only brings economic benefits to Europe but also deepens mutual understanding between Chinese visitors and local communities.
