The National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) identified five main challenges faced by Malaysian families today: high cost of living, rising expenses for raising children, reduced family time, the need for dual incomes, and gadget addiction.
These findings are based on an online survey conducted with 5,430 respondents aged 18 and above during November 2024, coinciding with National Family Month.
• 41.8% of respondents feel they lack sufficient family time due to work commitments.
• Average daily family time is 7.5 hours on weekdays and 13.4 hours on weekends.
• 97% cited high living costs as a major challenge, while 71.6% noted increased child-rearing expenses.
• 38.9% reported working multiple jobs to support their families.
• 33.2% highlighted gadget addiction as a significant issue.
Despite challenges, activities like shared meals (61.3%) and family gatherings (51.6%) remain central to fostering family bonds.
