EFS Advances Renewable Power for Malaysia's Data Centre Growth

EFS Group’s role in the Baram DeepTech Energy Programme combines solar power, battery storage and agrovoltaics to support Malaysia’s expanding data centre industry with reliable renewable energy.

EFS Group is strengthening Malaysia’s renewable energy landscape through its participation in the RM2.32 billion Baram DeepTech Energy Programme, a project designed to support the country’s rapidly expanding data centre industry.

As electricity demand from data centres continues to rise, reliable clean energy has become a critical requirement for sustaining future digital infrastructure.

Malaysia’s data centre sector is projected to require as much as 7.7GW of electricity by 2030. However, current consumption remains well below approved capacity, highlighting a window of opportunity for developers to establish dependable power infrastructure before demand reaches its peak.

Under a Heads of Agreement signed with Planet QEOS Sdn Bhd and several strategic partners, EFS will help develop Malaysia’s first firm solar power plant.

The project includes a 310MWp solar facility integrated with a 900MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), enabling renewable electricity to be supplied more consistently, including during periods when solar generation is unavailable.

The programme also features a 650-hectare agrovoltaic farm in northern Sarawak, allowing agricultural activities to coexist with solar energy production. This integrated approach supports food security while maximising land use efficiency.

By combining renewable generation, energy storage and sustainable agriculture, the project aims to strengthen Malaysia’s energy resilience and support long-term digital economic growth.
