Heriot-Watt’s EBS Accounting Championship a Success

Heriot-Watt University Malaysia recently concluded the Heriot-Watt Edinburgh Business School (EBS) Accounting Championship 2024, an annual flagship event dedicated to nurturing young talent in accounting.

This year’s grand finale, held at the University’s Putrajaya campus, brought together the brightest Form 5 students from both public and private schools, as well as Year 11 students from international schools nationwide.

Over 832 students competed in the preliminary rounds after which 30 exceptional students advanced to the final round through a rigorous selection process. During the finale, participants were tested on their accounting knowledge through a series of challenging theoretical and computational problems, judged on both accuracy and speed.

Heriot-Watt University Malaysia Edinburgh Business School Assistant Professor Jimmy Tam says, “The EBS Accounting Championship 2024 was designed not only to challenge and recognise the remarkable accounting talents of Malaysian students but also to inspire a deeper appreciation for the discipline. By fostering a competitive yet supportive environment, we aim to nurture the next generation of accounting professionals who will drive innovation and excellence in the field. This competition represents our commitment to academic excellence and supporting the educational journey of young minds in Malaysia.”

The competition covered a comprehensive range of topics, including the SPM Form 4 Prinsip Perakaunan syllabus, the SPM Form 5 Prinsip Perakaunan syllabus, and General knowledge of Commerce and Economics.
