Palo Alto Networks has introduced Idira, a next-generation identity security platform aimed at helping enterprises secure and govern all identities in an increasingly AI-driven environment.
Announced on May 13, Idira is designed to address growing cybersecurity risks arising from the rapid expansion of human, machine and AI-powered agentic identities. The platform combines identity discovery, governance and dynamic privilege controls, enabling organisations to secure access across users, machines and autonomous AI agents.
According to Palo Alto Networks, traditional privileged access management (PAM) solutions were developed for environments where elevated privileges were limited to a small group of users. However, the rise of AI and automation has significantly expanded the number of identities requiring privileged access, making identity-related threats one of the most pressing security concerns for enterprises.
The company noted that machine and AI identities now outnumber human identities by 109 to one, while many organisations still rely on standing privileges, increasing exposure to cyber threats. Idira addresses these challenges by eliminating unnecessary standing privileges and extending dynamic access controls across all identity types.
Peretz Regev, Chief Product and Technology Officer for Idira at Palo Alto Networks, said identity has become the new battleground in the AI era, with attackers increasingly exploiting credentials rather than breaching systems directly. He said Idira combines advanced identity protection capabilities with Palo Alto Networks’ scale and expertise to help organisations secure the future of AI-driven innovation.
