Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) held a public health forum titled “30s and Thriving: Prioritize Heart Health Early” in Kuala Lumpur on 25 September 2024 to raise awareness about heart health among young adults.
The event was part of their World Heart Day 2024 campaign under the theme “Neon Sparks, Healthy Heart Embarks.” A panel of experts, including cardiologists, a dietitian, a physiotherapist, and influencer Ili Sulaiman, discussed the growing risks of high cholesterol and cardiovascular diseases, especially in individuals in their 30s and 40s.
The CEO of IJN, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr Mohamed Ezani Md Taib, highlighted IJN’s mission to encourage younger adults to prioritize heart screenings. Senior Consultant Cardiologist Datuk Dr Ahmad Khairuddin addressed the prevalence of high cholesterol in Malaysians, particularly noting its impact on individuals aged 25-29. Influencer Ili Sulaiman shared her personal story of surviving a heart attack at age 38, urging others to take early action.
In addition to the forum, IJN is running a week-long campaign at AEON Shah Alam, offering heart screenings, interactive booths, and a cooking challenge to promote heart health.
The forum and broader campaign emphasize early intervention, healthy eating, and regular physical activity as key to managing heart disease risks.
