Kedah Opts for Repairs Over Costly Billion-Ringgit Langkawi Pipeline Replacement
The Kedah state assembly was informed that replacing the 36km undersea pipeline supplying water to Langkawi could cost billions of ringgit. Due to the high cost, State Committee Chairman Mohamad Yusuf announced that only repairs are being conducted, with RM50 million allocated—RM10 million for consultancy and RM40 million for repair work. Since Syarikat Air Darul Aman (SADA) took over the Taliworks Langkawi concession in 2020, 42 leaks have been fixed for RM3.1 million. A dedicated repair project is planned to improve water supply stability, with inspections and repairs occurring biweekly, weather permitting.
