SHAH ALAM – Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil officially launched Pos Malaysia’s inaugural autonomous vehicle (AV) concept today, emphasizing that the innovation aims to boost operational efficiency without reducing the workforce. He assured that high-tech adoption supports daily tasks and enhances service delivery while safeguarding existing jobs. The initiative is funded by a RM50 million allocation from the MCMC’s Universal Service Obligation (USO) and Postal Services Fund, reactivated after 14 years to drive sustainable digital transformation for Pos Malaysia and courier players.
Fahmi described Pos Malaysia as a potential global model for balancing advanced technology with human welfare. Pos Malaysia Chairman Tan Sri Syed Faisal Albar highlighted the strategic partnership with Autonomous Logistic Solutions using the Level 4 autonomous electric vehicle Zelos. The six-month Proof of Concept will begin at the National Mail Centre, supported by DNB’s 5G network for real-time, low-latency communication. Since 2021, digital transformation has achieved over 90% next-day delivery and 97% Retail NPS. The project also advances sustainability, with Pos Malaysia operating the country’s largest EV fleet (1,262 electric motorcycles and 280 vans) and targeting 100% EV conversion by 2030, complemented by solar installations to reduce carbon footprint.
