On April 5, 100,000 tonnes of Malaysian palm oil from Sabah arrived at Liverpool, England, marking the first zero-tariff consignment under the CPTPP, as announced by Malaysian High Commissioner Datuk Zakri Jaafar. Speaking at a dinner for Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof in London, Zakri highlighted enhanced trade prospects through CPTPP, which the UK joined in December 2023. Malaysia’s CPTPP membership began in November 2022.
Zakri also emphasized Malaysia’s renewable energy advancements, noting TNB’s launch of two solar farms in the UK (102MW combined capacity) in January 2024, showcasing technology transfer benefits. Malaysia, the UK’s fourth-largest Southeast Asian trading partner, recorded RM15.30 billion in trade and £19 billion (RM110.63 billion) in UK investments in 2024.
