Clicks is an innovative iPhone accessory that caters to those who prefer physical keyboards over touchscreen typing. As a matter of fact, Clicks is praised for enhancing remote work, providing a tactile typing experience, and improving mobile productivity.
Users appreciate its engineering, tactile feedback, and nostalgic click sound, though it may add bulk to the iPhone, turning it into a longer device. One of the plus factors that may make Clicks a winner for the younger generations perhaps, is that it comes with support for keyboard shortcuts and backlighting too.
Speaking with Jeff Gadway, CMO, we can say the impressive element is Clicks’ seamless integration and the developer’s responsiveness in improving functionality.
Speaking of functionality: Clicks is available for the iPhone 14 Pro, 15 Pro, and 15 Pro Max. Unlike typical Bluetooth add-ons, it directly connects to your iPhone via Lightning or USB-C12.
Gadway says it is very simple to slide the iPhone into clicks and you get a full keyboard that gives you the full real estate back. “In addition to typing, you have your entire screen back. Usually, the virtual keyboard takes 50% of your screen. That means you can see the full picture you are editing on your phone for Instagram, TikTok or Facebook stories. You have your full screen for chats too,” he says.
He adds that if you are editing documents, you can see your entire screen without a keyboard taking up the space and it is one of the major benefits of the physical keyboard that many people like.
Clicks comes with a case and it features the built-in physical keyboard, allowing you to type more comfortably and efficiently.
It supports keyboard shortcuts but does not include emojis or support wired headphones, yet, but there is nothing to charge. The keyboard fits in nicely with your device, without eating up your battery.
The add-on allows you to take action with access to iOS Shortcuts and voice input at the push of a button. “With the keyboard, you can now access iOS shortcuts with 36 action buttons. Anything that you can build in the Apple shortcuts like launching an application or some kind of automation, you can do with the keyboard.
“I can open Instagram just by pressing the I button. I can Shazam what songs I am listening to by pressing the S button.” Even more interesting, he says one can call a ride-share by pressing the ‘G’ button in Malaysia for example and request a ride to the current location. It is really turning your keyboard into a remote control.
Before Clicks, Jeff was director of worldwide product marketing for BlackBerry, responsible for leading the company’s entire worldwide product marketing strategy through the corporate turn-around. And Clicks bring back the nostalgia for the BlackBerry era.
Clicks may in fact be interesting towards the younger generations. The arrival of the product will catch the eyes of those who have never had the chance to experience physical keys on a phone. Previously thought to be relics from a bygone era, is now reborn into something new.
Talking about colours, the product comes in two colours, “BumbleBee” yellow and “London Sky” gray/blue. Gadway said there will be more colours in the future as all the development and innovation of the product will also rely on the needs of the consumers in the long run.
Gadway says Clicks has sparked both interest and debate. Some users appreciate the tactile feel of a physical keyboard, while others prefer the convenience of touchscreens.
But one thing is for sure, more people are now curious about this unique accessory.
A keyboard backlight makes it easy to type comfortably and confidently in low-light conditions. It goes on and comes off easily. As we mentioned above, Clicks connects directly to the iPhone through Lightning (iPhone 14 Pro) or USB-C (iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro Max) and would allow users to charge their phone as normal.
For those who prefer an in-store experience, the Clicks Keyboard will be available at all authorized Swap Asia retailers beginning in August.
