Rubio: Tariff imposed on Malaysia not final
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the proposed 25% US tariff on Malaysia is not final, with one month left to negotiate. He raised the issue with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a courtesy call in Parliament on Thursday. “Rubio said Trump’s letter is general and we still have time to discuss. He knows Malaysia is a key trading partner in Southeast Asia,” Anwar told reporters. Trump recently announced tariffs on 14 countries, including Malaysia, to take effect on Aug 1. Anwar reaffirmed Malaysia’s neutral stance while strengthening ties with China and Asean.
