Sarawak Completes Acquisition of MASwings

The Sarawak state government has officially completed the acquisition of MASwings Sdn Bhd through its wholly-owned entity, AirBorneo Holdings Sdn Bhd, effective January 1, 2026. The sale and purchase agreement was signed on February 12, 2025, between Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) and the Sarawak government.

AirBorneo announced it will assume full legal and operational responsibility for the airline. During the transition phase, MASwings branding will remain in use while the new AirBorneo identity is progressively introduced. The company thanked passengers, partners, and stakeholders for their cooperation.

In February 2025, Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg unveiled the AirBorneo brand during the handover ceremony in Kuching, witnessed by federal Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin. The agreement was signed by State Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar Marzuki and MAG Group Managing Director Datuk Kapten Izham Ismail.

The acquisition aims to strengthen regional air connectivity, ensure affordable fares, and support Sarawak’s socio-economic development. Collaboration with MAG will continue to ensure a smooth transition and maintain high service standards.
