Sunzen Biotech Bhd plans to engage with government agencies to increase its bird’s nest harvesting quota and boost exports to China, which accounts for 53% of its revenue. Executive chairman Ching Chee Pun noted strong growth in premium bird’s nest products in China, stating, “We will be discussing with relevant government agencies to increase our quota for bird’s nest harvesting and also to increase our product exports to China to tap a bigger share in this market.”
Sunzen’s subsidiary, Ecolite Biotech Manufacturing, has over 300 products and received approval to export bottled bird’s nest to China until 2028. Yan Ming Resources, another subsidiary, processes and exports raw bird’s nests to China, with imports reaching over 300 tons annually.
The company is seeking a new plant to boost production and reported a net profit of RM9.17 million for the 18 months ending June 30, 2024. At the recent extraordinary general meeting, shareholders approved acquiring additional shares in Ecolite and Yan Ming, aiming for full ownership.
Ching added that Sunzen plans to sell its land and factory in Kota Kemuning, valued at RM16 million to RM18 million, to raise capital for expanding its focus on human health products and financial services.
