China Urges Citizens to Avoid Japan as Taiwan Tensions Escalate
Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has secured a historic mandate just 110 days into her premiership, after calling a snap election that delivered a landslide victory for the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). According to NHK, the LDP captured 316 seats in the 465-member House of Representatives, marking the first time since World War II that a party has won more than two-thirds of the chamber.
The result strengthens Takaichi’s position as Japan’s first female prime minister and clears the way for her conservative agenda on defense, immigration, and social issues. It also provides legitimacy to her government, which she said required a public mandate. Markets responded positively, with the Nikkei 225 jumping 5 percent in early trading, reflecting investor confidence in her expansionary fiscal policies.
With this supermajority, Takaichi faces few constraints as she advances aggressive spending programs and bolsters Japan’s national security posture on the global stage.
