Targeted RON95 subsidies to be implemented from mid-2025, says Anwar

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has announced that a targeted subsidy plan for RON95 fuel will be implemented by mid-2025.

The plan is expected to save the government billions by preventing wealthier individuals and foreigners from benefiting disproportionately from the RM8 billion in fuel subsidies. These savings will be redirected towards improving education, healthcare, and public transport.

Infrastructure Enhancements

Meanwhile, the government’s Budget 2025 will prioritize expanding the country’s urban transit systems, focusing on railways and feeder buses to reduce congestion and carbon emissions. Projects such as the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), Central Spine Road (CSR), and Pan Borneo Highway will further boost interstate mobility, supporting economic growth. Infrastructure investments in rural and urban areas will also continue to enhance road access, water, and electricity supply, promoting national connectivity and sustainable development.

These initiatives align with the government’s broader strategy to improve the quality of life, create a well-connected economy, and promote environmental sustainability.
