Trump Backs VP Vance as Likely 2028 GOP Presidential Nominee

WASHINGTON, Aug 6 — US President Donald Trump on Tuesday signaled Vice President JD Vance is “most likely” to become the Republican nominee for president in 2028. While Trump previously refrained from naming a successor, he now says Vance is “doing a great job” and would likely be favored. Trump also floated the possibility of Vance teaming up with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, calling it a “formidable” Republican ticket. Despite continued speculation and Trump-themed “2028” merchandise, the president said he would “probably not” seek a third term. Vance has indicated he would consult Trump before making a decision.
