U Mobile has been officially awarded the contract by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to deploy Malaysia’s second 5G network, following last month’s evaluation of its business plan by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
The company, with over 17 years of experience, expressed confidence in delivering a cutting-edge 5G network to support Malaysia’s digital economy ambitions. CEO Wong Heang Tuck highlighted U Mobile’s role in driving 5G adoption and fostering innovation, aligning with the nation’s goal to become a high-income digital leader.
The dual 5G network policy, enabled by share sales in state-owned Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) to telecom giants, aims to boost competition and sustainability while keeping Malaysia technologically advanced.
