Umno Sets Up Task Force to Review URA Ahead of Convention

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 — Umno has established a special task force to review and propose improvements to the Urban Renewal Bill (URB), appointing vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani as chairman. Party secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the task force will scrutinize the bill in detail before presenting its findings at the Malay Urban Convention later this month. The convention will gather Umno leaders, Malay political parties, NGOs, academics, and civil society groups, with resolutions to be submitted to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The URB has sparked debate over consent thresholds and property rights.

“The task force is responsible for reviewing and refining every aspect of the Urban Renewal Bill in detail before it is presented at the Malay Urban Convention,” he said in a statement.
