Miti appoints its deputy sec-gen as chief negotiator for US tariff talks
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim asserted that Malaysia will not bow to any external pressure that could undermine national policies, especially during tariff negotiations with the United States. He emphasised that Malaysia has a “red line” in such negotiations, namely the protection of the bumiputera policy, even if it is seen as discriminatory by outsiders. Anwar added that procurement and opportunities for local companies must also be safeguarded.
He stressed Malaysia’s approach is “careful but firm” to protect national interests while maintaining trade ties with countries like China, Asean members, Brazil, and Egypt to diversify markets.
