YTL Power is accelerating its data centre expansion in Johor, targeting 1.2GW capacity, supported by strong hyperscaler demand, ongoing construction progress, and future-ready AI infrastructure planning.
YTL Power International Berhad is strengthening its position in Malaysia’s fast-growing data centre sector, with plans to double the capacity of its YTL Green Data Centre Park in Kulai, Johor, from 600MW to 1.2GW.
Following a recent site visit, the company highlighted significant progress at the campus, where construction activities remain active. The development currently consists of four operational data centres, one facility undergoing testing, and two more under construction. This marks a substantial expansion compared with December 2024, when only one data centre was operational.
As of the third quarter of FY2026, YTL Power had delivered 150MW of capacity, representing an increase of 40MW from the previous quarter. The group has secured a total of 298MW of capacity and expects to deliver 288MW by FY2027, with the remaining 10MW scheduled for FY2028.
The data centre park serves a diversified customer base comprising several leading global hyperscalers, reinforcing demand for the company’s digital infrastructure offerings.
To support its expanded target, YTL Power plans to develop an additional consumer landing station and secure more power supply from Tenaga Nasional. Within the 1,640-acre site, approximately 250 acres have been allocated for data centre developments, while most of the remaining land is earmarked for solar-related projects.
The company is also collaborating with technology partners, including Nvidia, to prepare for future AI-driven workloads. Management noted that increasing GPU power density could push rack power requirements from current levels of 130kW-140kW to around 240kW per rack, underscoring the need for future-ready infrastructure.
