PETALING JAYA, July 7 – Senior political adviser to prime minister Anwar Ibrahim, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, has urged critics not to politicise the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), stressing that the federal government has been the driving force behind the initiative. In a video statement, he highlighted that Putrajaya secured Singapore’s agreement, created the framework, and attracted investments worth nearly RM77 billion, with 57% already in implementation. “Don’t look at the drama, look at the results,” he said, emphasising that the government remains focused on delivery.

His remarks followed Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi’s accusation that Putrajaya delayed the launch of the master plan, claiming it required no further approval from Singapore. Economy minister Akmal Nasir countered that development was ongoing despite the pending launch. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also criticised Onn Hafiz for using the JS-SEZ as campaign material in the Johor state election, calling it a “silly” move.
