Chinese Tourists
KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia welcomed nearly 1.8 million Chinese tourists between January and May this year, boosted by the visa waiver policy introduced in 2024. Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan said Chinese arrivals rose from 1.6 million in 2023 to 3.4 million last year. Promotional efforts target Muslim travellers, including inviting over 100 imams from China and Europe to experience Malaysia’s Muslim-friendly tourism. To ensure benefits reach the east coast, integrated promotions highlight attractions like the Crystal Mosque, generating spillovers for homestays, handicrafts, and traditional food industries.
