SELANGOR, 15 June 2024 – Selangor continues to dominate the domestic tourism scene, recording an impressive 27.6 million domestic visitors in 2023.
As reported by the Department of Statistics Malaysia, Selangor outpaced all other states, with the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur following at 22.2 million visitors and Sarawak at 17.9 million.
This marks the third consecutive year that Selangor has led the nation in domestic tourism. In 2021, the state welcomed 10 million domestic visitors, which surged to 22 million in 2022.
The sustained growth has significantly boosted Selangor’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), contributing RM 2.571 billion in 2023. This achievement underscores Selangor’s pivotal role in driving economic growth through tourism.
The state’s remarkable performance is a testament to the success of its domestic tourism campaign, “Nak Bercuti? Pusing Selangor Dulu!”. By promoting 10 diverse tourism segments across its 9 districts, this campaign has laid a strong foundation for the upcoming Visit Selangor Year 2025.
Looking ahead, Selangor aims to continue its upward trajectory by attracting 8 million visitors in the coming year, including both domestic and international tourists. The state remains committed to enhancing its tourism offerings and ensuring that it remains a premier destination for travelers.
